If you suffer from allergies, you know how challenging it is to find foods that make you feel good after every meal. There are many ways to check for allergies. Some of them are very expensive, and there are times when the results end up showing many false positives or false negatives.

But there is an easy way for your to check for allergies at home.   When you suspect that you have an allergy to any particular food, you can do this SENSITIVY TEST by yourself, or even do that with your child.

Your goal is to find out if your body would have a reaction to a particular food (the one you are testing). This is what you have to do:

  1. At bedtime, take a drop of the food in question, and place it on the side of your wrist. If the food to test is solid, mash it and mix it with a little bit of water.
  2. Let the drop dry on the skin. Then go to sleep.
  3. In the morning, check the spot: if there is an angry red or an itchy reaction in the spot where you placed the food, or the area is swollen, then avoid that food for a few weeks and try again later.
  4. If there is no reaction on the skin, then put a drop on the lip and don’t lick it off.
  5. If there is an allergy, the lip will become swollen and red in a few minutes.
  6. If there was no reaction neither in the skin, nor on the lip, then you can go ahead and introduce the food gradually, starting with small amounts.

An important thing to consider when you do this SENTIVITY TEST is to always test the food in the state you are planning to introduce it. For example, if you are planning to introduce raw egg yolks, test the raw egg yolk as is, and not cooked.

When it comes to eggs, test the yolk and the egg white separately. Take a drop of egg yolk, carefully separated of the white to avoid contamination, and place it on the inside of your wrist. Let the drop dry on the skin overnight and check for the reaction in the morning, as explained above, followed by the test on the lip.   Then another night, you can do the same with the egg white.

This sensitivity test is a useful and easy test to do when you are following the GAPS Nutritional Protocol, and you want to introduce a new food.
