ABOUT ME
Hi, I Am Maria Magnusson
I am a Registered Holistic Nutritionist and a Certified GAPS practitioner. I created “THE LADDER TO WELLNESS” approach to help people like you improve their health, after years of fighting with depression and digestive/intestinal problems, and battling with several diagnosed diseases that include Sjogrens, Fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Raynaud’s disease, Asthma and Hypothyroidism.
A few years ago, from being healthy, my health declined severely in only one year. It was a shock! And after years of looking for the help of medical doctors and specialists, and having no improvements, I lost hope to get healthier. I went through a very rough down-fall where depression, anxiety, fear and terrible mood swings surrounded me all the time, feeling more hopeless and depressed every day, and of course, severely impacting my family. I did not want anybody to know how bad I felt and how depressed I was. The only ‘support’ that my doctors offered me was to prescribe strong medications for pain and depression, and those had harmful side effects, which the doctors suggested to alleviate with more and more medications. Little did I know at that time that the side effects and the interactions between medications could be as debilitating as the actual diseases, hurting my body in different ways.
It came to a point where I couldn’t get up from bed in the mornings. I had two kids and a husband that I needed to take care of, and after some years of struggle, when I realized that conventional medicine did not have the answers for me, I had to surrender to my reality and take my health into my own hands. So one day, I decided to start my studies in Holistic Nutrition, as a last resource to improve my health. That’s when things began to change. I learned that, despite what the doctors said, many things could be done as the approach to improve my health. So if you have been there, hang on tight… don’t despair!
With a passion for learning, I got trained and certified by Neurosurgeon Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride, as a GAPS Practitioner (Gut & Psychology/Physiology Syndrome), and got a much deeper understanding about the connection between our gut’s health and micro-biome, with our physical state and brain function.
Now I know that when it comes to improving people’s health, medications are not the only nor the best option in many cases, and that there are no “one-size-fits-all” recommendations that work for everybody like a recipe. I’ve learned that lifestyle changes are needed to support our path to wellness. For years I thought that I ate pretty healthy, until I found out that I needed to evaluate the food I ate and change my dietary habits, because what you eat is reflected in you, not only in your body but in your emotions and your mind. I understood the importance of sleep and the significant impact it has on your health when the quality of your sleep is poor. I found the type of exercise that was right for me, after years of feeling that exercising was not my thing. I learned how devastating stress was, and I’ve found ways to deal with it that are simple and effective. My life has changed for good!!!
Today, thanks to all my knowledge and expertise, I have gotten healthier and I have helped many individuals improve their health with personalized food and transformational lifestyle recommendations that are both achievable and profoundly empowering.
I am also a motivational speaker who knows that prevention can go very far when it comes to health. With solid core values, a strong desire to make a difference in the world, and my passion for education, I teach and support individuals and groups of all ages, as well as provide workshops and mentoring programs, spreading the word about how to get healthier and stay healthy, because I believe that feeling great is the first step to achieve all our dreams.
My specialty is with the “Gut and Psychology/Physiology Syndrome” Nutritional Protocol (GAPS), created by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride, which through dietary intervention, targeted supplementation, detoxification, and lifestyle changes, is designed to restore digestive function, brain function and overall health, both physical and mental. In my experience, GAPS is a great alternative to improve your disease and your health challenges.
I am a firm believer, without a doubt in my mind, that there is always something that can be done to feel better and improve one’s health. So, if your health is not where you would like it to be, or if you have lost hope in improving your health, contact me. You may be surprised as to what can be done. I would be happy to chat with you about how I can help and support you.
